Acropolis opened in 1976 as Acropolis Steakhouse. Locals call it the A-Crop: a family-owned Sellwood steakhouse-strip club long associated with cheap steak bites, garlic toast, and a particular kind of Portland loyalty.
Greek immigrant Bob Polizos ran the business for decades; after his death in 2019, his wife Diane continued its stewardship. The club has become one of the city’s most recognizable adult-nightlife landmarks.
As of late 2025 and early 2026, the property has been listed for sale and its future is uncertain. This is a piece of a fifty-year Portland institution that may not remain available much longer.
The building is listed for sale. Once this chapter closes, bills connected to this era cannot be replenished.
